I Have a Dream

Dear Team,

In February of 2008, God used the first annual “I Have a Dream” event to show me a small glimpse into His heart for these kids. That’s a long story for another day, but the point is...I was undeniably hooked. That event has been one of my favorite days of the year ever since. It is an evening dedicated to celebrating the kids and their dreams for the future. I love the joy on their faces and the hope in their words.

This year, I was again humbled as I realized that one of my own dreams is coming true. It was over 5 years ago that I first heard anyone mention the serious need to offer something for our students as they reach middle school. And every year, that need just got bigger as more and more of the kids we had loved all through elementary school grew up. But with limited time, space and resources, it felt like nothing would ever change.

But by God’s grace and faithfulness, it is finally happening! By this time next week, the middle and high school students who have grown up as part of the YLFR community will be attending a brand new Learning Center (“L..C. Remix”) at Northminster Church, focused on fulfilling a key part of our mission: long - term investment. After years of dreaming and now months of planning, I am so thankful (and thrilled!) to have the opportunity to grow with these kids and continue to encourage them to pursue their dreams.

Thank you for the support that makes it all possible. I look forward to updating you on our L.C. Remix adventures!

KeondreOutstanding Student!

Keondre, a student at the Highland Park center, spent a week this summer attending the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. After being selected by his school to attend, he personally raised $2,000 in less than two weeks to cover the cost of the conference.

Keondre’s week was filled with a visit to Capitol Hill, a trip to Harpers Ferry, and tours of numerous monuments and museums. He interacted and made friends with kids from around the country. One highlight from his trip was a visit to the Maryland Science Center. After a full day of exploring, he got to sleep over inside of the center, which he thought was really cool. Keondre said, “it was an eye opening experience, one that I will never forget.” A big thanks to everyone who helped make this a reality for Keondre.
